After War Gundam X Poster

<After War Gundam X> is a story of growth and love in a world where everything was destroyed by space immigrants and the Earth's federal government's space war, and 'Garrod Ran', an ordinary boy who got Gundam, protects 'Tiffa Adill', a mysterious girl who fell in love at first sight.

It contains a lot of homage to the first work of the series, <Mobile Suit

Gundam>, and is a science fiction robot adventure animation that attempted to show a new direction away from the superpower pilot and new type-oriented stories of the existing Gundam series.

          Background story

After War Gundam X Screen Shoot 01

Humanity advances into space with high technological advances. With the creation of an artificial habitat called colonies in space, more and more people are entering space, and the number of colonies increases.

By that time, the Earth is trying to establish a federal government and unify and put the space colony under its control. As long as you don't like that behavior, you have the independence movement from the colony and the conflict gets worse and eventually you have a space war.

After War Gundam X Screen Shoot 02

The space immigrants formed the 'the Space Revolution Army', which was deadlocked with 'the Earth's Federal Army', which lasted eight months and led to the Seventh War. The Space Revolutionary Army announced 40 'Colony Earth Fall Operation' as a hidden card, forcing the federal government to surrender

In a serious situation, the Earth's federation deploys mobile suit gundams and new type soldiers with special powers that were being developed in strict confidence. And they deploy GX-9900 and GX-Bit units around the Earth's gravitational sphere to fight with thorough avionics.

After War Gundam X Screen Shoot 03

The boy soldier 'Jamil Neate', who sands at the forefront of the new type, shoots out the largest weapon of the aircraft, Satellite Canon, to prevent the colony from falling. But after seeing Gundam's powerful attack, the Space Revolution forces eventually pushed ahead with the colony's fall to win,

Both camps suffer enormous damage and the war becomes a temporary truce. And then you have the greatest tragedy in human history, where colonies fall on Earth, killing most of the population, which was 10 billion, and devastating most of the area.

          Main story

After War Gundam X Screen Shoot 04

In the 15th year of the A.W.(After War), which means a new beginning for forgetting the dark history of the past, the devastated world coexists with people who are cultivating their living grounds again and armed 'Vultures' who find and sell remnants of war such as discarded military facilities and weapons.

'Garrod Ran', a 15-year-old boy who lost his parents and was left alone in the aftermath of the Seventh Space War, was living looking for war weapons and MSs, selling them to junk shops, and solving various incidents.

After War Gundam X Screen Shoot 05

One day, they steal the MS of the Vulture that attacked the village where they were staying and sell it to a junk shop, and a person named Rike Anto, who was watching it, asks to recapture a girl named 'Tiffa Adill' from the Vulture named Freeden.

Seeing the girl's picture, Garrod accepts the job as if standing, and infiltrates the battleship of Freeden, which is moored by the lake for water supply. While looking for something that could be worth the money, I pack a controller from the captain's room and easily get Tiffa to the promised place.

After War Gundam X Screen Shoot 06

However, Garrod, who saw Tiffa, who was afraid of Ant, had a hunch that something was wrong and drove Tiffa into the car and ran away. Anto's MSs are chasing, but with Tiffa's special ability, they avoid attacks and enter the MS factory in the former Union, which Tiffa points to.

And there you find the 'Gundam GX-9900', the decisive weapon of the space war. Was it fate When Garod inserts a controller from Frieden into the empty controller seat, Gundam starts and stands up.

After War Gundam X Screen Shoot 07

MS Daughtress attacks, but it doesn't work on Gundam's gloves at all, and Garrod easily defeats them. But it's also a bit of relief Freeden and the second Gundam block the way, and Garrod, who is behind the same Gundam type of attack and skillful pilot's skills

Ask Tiffa for understanding and use Tiffa as a shield to make a gap and run away to the forest. From the first time I saw him, he opened his heart to feel special feelings for Tiffa and shared his story. In such a harsh world, this time, there are beekeepers aiming for Gundam.

After War Gundam X Screen Shoot 08

Garrod fights against Gundam, but he is cornered by poor numbers. At that time, when Tiffa, who came to believe in Garrod, certified the satellite system with the ability of the new type, microwave is sent to Gundam from the base of the moon.

When you convert that into energy and launch the satellite canon, everything within a radius of several kilometers evaporates under the tremendous power of the canon. At that time, Tiffa, feeling the thoughts of the dying, loses consciousness and loses consciousness.

Is the moon up? / Garrod, I'll give you strength...

After War Gundam X Screen Shoot 10

Freeden, who was watching from afar, approaches at high speed, Captain Jamil Neate gets on the Gundam himself, and opens the cockpit hatch to overpower Garrod. Garrod, Tiffa, and Jamil, who are back in Freeden, protect Tiffa, who has lost consciousness, and tell their stories.

Jamil fought in the seventh space war, flying the Gundam GX-9900 as a new type pilot for the Earth's Federal Army. The front line fires satellite canons to prevent the colony from falling, but the attack triggered the colony's fall, killing many lives.

After War Gundam X Screen Shoot 11

I'm trying to prevent a new type of person from experiencing the same experience as him or her due to great trauma about what he or she has done. While exploring for the purpose of finding and protecting new types, Tifa was rescued and protected by Alternative's New Type Laboratory.

Garrod joins Freeden for Tiffa and becomes the full pilot of Gundam GX-9900 collectively known as GX. Whenever I face enemies who aim for Gundam and New Type, I travel around the world in search of New Type, defending Freeden and Tiffa with other Gundam pilots who cross.

- Why did Tiffa run away with Garrod...?

          Story of one's work

<After War Gundam X> is a work that is regarded by fans as an unfortunate masterpiece. In order to make up for the loss caused by the poor performance of the previous G Gundam, we are urgently planning a new work, <Mobile Suit Gundam W>, even while delaying the production of Gundam X, which was being planned.

At that time, many companies went bankrupt in Japan due to the collapse of the Economic bubble, and Sunrise also cut its personnel to maintain the company. Under these circumstances, all working conditions were poor, suffering from severe manpower shortages.

The production crew was put into several works at once, and director Takamatsu Shinji will also produce <The Brave of Gold Goldran> and Gundam X. To make matters worse, director 'Ikeda Masashi' dropped out of the production of Gundam W, and he even took over Gundam W.

Bandai was focusing on the production of Gundam W, so most of the staff was put into Gundam W and Goldran, and Gundam X was produced in a relatively poor environment. I think this might have had a lot of influence on the work.

I started broadcasting on Asahi TV, but I'm having a hard time again. Media market magnate Rupert Murdoch took over a stake in Asahi TV, taking measures such as moving or abolishing children and adolescents he dislikes during unpopular times.

Gundam X moves to unpopular times, and to make matters worse, Gundam (1/144, 1/100 scale unrated, HG) also doesn't sell well amid criticism from weak joints and many panel lines, and was treated as a dark history of the Gundam series until the early 2000s.

          Broadcasting in Japan

After War Gundam X Broadcasting in Japan TV Asahi

In Japan, TV Asahi aired from April 5, 1996 to December 28, 1996
It aired every Friday at 17:00 (episode 1 ~ 26) and Saturday at 6:00 (episode 27 ~ 39)
for 24 minutes / 39 episodes.

Due to the low popularity and falling ratings at the time of the show, the show will not be able to keep its place every Friday from 17:00 to 17:30 and will be moved to 6 a.m. on Saturday. As it is an unpopular time, the ratings almost fall to the bottom and eventually end early.

Since then, it has been re-evaluated as an unfortunate feat that ended early due to many unfavorable factors with the release of Gundam Build Fighters, which showed good performance in Super Robot Competition and Gundam Build Fighters, and improved previous problems.

- There may be the influence of Rupert Murdoch above,

but the reason for the low ratings is likely to be greater.

It's like throwing it away because the five-day workweek hasn't been fully implemented yet...

Media outlets have released VHS (1996), LD, DVD-BOX (2005 / 2010) and Blu-ray BOX (2018).

          This piece is

I would like to talk about the new type of the past by homage to the 1979 <Mobile Suit Gundam>. I tried to break the illusion of speciality (new type) and convey the meaning of life on my way, but there were many regrets in the story's development.

It has a similar atmosphere to the Space Century Gundam series, but it is not a connected story, and as a war product, political conflicts, background settings, and war expressions between forces are much poorer than Mobile Suit Gundam.

- There are a lot of episodes of First Gundam. Even if I changed it in a different way Depending on how you look at it, I think you borrowed a lot of homage, so I think people like it or dislike it.

The beginning is an omnibus-style survival story that fights against enemies seeking Gundam in a dystopian world after the war, and the atmosphere turns into a war object in opposition to the new federal government that wants to unify the Earth. And then you go into space and you get another turn of the story.

The unmentioned Space Revolution Army comes out again and expands to a space war with the Earth's Federation, and suddenly the first new type called 'D.O.M.E' appears, talking about the fantasy of the new type and ending the war.

It turns out that the Frost brothers were the dark side of everything, but the Frost brothers, who killed people even though almost everyone who came out as enemies died, survived to the end, and it seems that a lot of forced developments have been criticized.

Nevertheless, the atmosphere of painting the dystopian world bright and serious and adding moderate weight was fine. Each of our unique allies' characters, working for their own ends, gets closer and closer as they struggle through battles and difficulties

In particular, Garrod and Tiffa interacted with people to achieve spiritual growth, and the fresh love story of the two gradually developing in adversity made me keep looking at the work.

The message through Garrod, who is not trapped within the limits of the future predicted by Newtype, overcomes difficulties whenever he faces them, and goes the way he chooses, seemed encouraging, so it was good.

I think the description of the war was weak, but on the other hand, the combat production was excellent, and the mechanical design was good. Uniquely, the meaningful lines of Gakhwa become the title of the episode and show it exquisitely through the preview.

I think the overall atmosphere and central message continued consistently until the end, and I managed to finish it well. It is a work worth seeing that would have been better if it had not ended early.
